Personalizing with PBS LearningMedia

Saturday, April 4th, 1:40pm - 2:25pm - Strategy Sessions

PBS LearningMedia offers a curated selection of standards-aligned videos, interactives, and lesson plans that are designed to improve teacher effectiveness and student achievement. Participants will begin with a quick overview of PBS LearningMedia and an exploration of tools such as lesson builder, puzzle builder, quiz maker, and storyboards. We will walk through an example of how PBS LearningMedia can be used to customize learning for student’s strengths, needs, skills, and interests and then engage participants in a discussion on various implementation possibilities informed by individual website exploration. It is recommended that participants register for FREE accounts before the session.

Deb Ramm
Deb Ramm is a National Board Certified Teacher, formerly teaching fourth grade for 20 years and now in a new role in her district as Instructional Technology Coordinator. Deb was a 2015 PBS Lead Digital Innovator and 2018 PBS Digital All-Star, her district’s Teacher of the Year in 2016, a Fuse RI Fellow since 2014 and Fuse Advisor 2017-2019, an awardee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 2014 and president of the Rhode Island Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development 2015-2017. She helps to build technology competencies of students and teachers across her district, provides technology-based professional learning opportunities for educators across the state, and develops strategies for personalization through blended learning.
Jon Rubin
Jon Rubin has 20 years of professional experience in public media, currently as Director of Education Services for Rhode Island PBS, responsible for supervising efforts in developing and delivering video and multi-media content for instructional use in K-12, early childhood, and adult basic education. The station’s core resource is Rhode Island PBS LearningMedia (ri.pbslearningmedia.org), which provides access free-of-charge to tens of thousands of media-based instructional resources for educators, students and parents. Jon received an M.A. in Teaching of English (Secondary) from Columbia University Teachers College.
Colleen Kenyon
Colleen Kenyon, Coordinator of Education Services, Rhode Island PBS, supports departmental efforts in developing and delivering educational multi-media content. Colleen received a B.A. in Psychology and Elementary Education from Roger Williams University and taught at the elementary level for thirteen years. She currently holds a certificate in Elementary Education in Rhode Island and is a Level 2 Google Certified Educator.
